Where to find the book you want.
The best way to obtain a book to read is through the library in your town.
Admittedly the computer card catalog might present a barrier to access for some
users. But you are here on the computer. Chances are, that is not you. But if
you do have a problem finding a book in your library, then ask a librarian. They
are pleased to offer help in finding items in their library for you. The card
catalog for your local library might also be online.
If you can not find what you want at your local library, ask your reference
librarian about inter library loan. Many county libraries and even state
libraries can access books from nearby libraries. They don't even charge you
postage. Check into this. You might not have to buy the book you want to read.
Red MORE
about inter library loan. When you get to the Google search box, enter the name
of your city and state to get nearby locations.
The Library of Congress in DC has most books. If you want to search for
appropriate books, that card catalog might be a good place to start. Then if you
know what you want, you are more apt to find it quickly. Also if you happen to
be in Washington DC you can fill out a call slip at the LOC and someone will go
looking for the book for you. No charge beyond taxes. Click HERE
to be connected to the Library of Congress data base for a search.
There are books online available for a free download. The Gutenberg Project
has an index. Click HERE to see it. Here
is a sample.
About Project Gutenberg
Project Gutenberg is the Internet's oldest producer of FREE electronic books
(eBooks or eTexts).
Project Gutenberg is the brainchild of Michael
Hart, who in 1971 decided that it would be a really good idea if lots of
famous and important texts were freely available to everyone in the world. Since
then, he has been joined by hundreds of volunteers who share his vision.
Now, more than thirty years later, Project Gutenberg has the following figures
(as of November 8th 2002): 203 New eBooks released during October 2002, 1975 New
eBooks produced in 2002 (they were 1240 in 2001) for a total of 6267 Total
Project Gutenberg eBooks. 119 eBooks have been posted so far by Project
Gutenberg of Australia.

Electronic Text Collections in Western European Literature
This page lists Internet sources for literary texts in the western European
languages other than English. Translations are mentioned only when they are
included in collections of original language texts, or when they are themselves
of interest. Collections are listed more or less in order of size; individual
authors are listed alphabetically. EuRoDocs
lists many historical and social science texts in western European languages.
There are eBooks for downloading. Click HERE
