John worked for the railroad: The Elgin, Joliet and Eastern EJ&E
line which was operated by US Steel at that time. He was a crane operator. His
work was to clear wrecks and set cars back on the tracks after derailment. He
worked there his entire work life.
John had a sister who also came to the USA. Ida Svensson born July 14th,
1876 on the farm Braten, parish Dorarp, district Jonkoping (F) county. According
to the parish book, Ida supposedly emigrated to Minnesota, USA, in 1899. She had three
children, Hildur, Harold, and Arthur Swanson in Chicago, Illinois. (These

Svensson:
Ida Marie Svensson is found. Here are her
details: Died May 21, 1954 in Chicago.
In the 1930 USA census she and her family are
living at the 5414 S.Wells Street address. They have her as IVA.
She married Sigfred S. Swanson. (He died in
Chicago 1947-01-07)
They lived at 5414 S. Wells Street, Chicago,
Illinois for many years.
She had three children.
Arthur K. born 1917. Never married. No
children.
In 1955 Arthur was still living at 5414 S.Wells Street.
Hildur Virginia born 1919. Married William J.
Herold.
They had four children. Howard, William A,
Virginia, Barbara
They had 11 grand children.
They had 19 great grand children.
Hildur Virginia Herold died June 7, 2002 in
Chicago.
Harold O. born 1921. He married Louise. They
had three children. Judy, Johanna, Frank.
Four grand children. He died 1962-09-10
All the family members including Ida seem
to be buried at Oak Hill Cemetery in Palos Park, Illinois when deceased.
